​千分之一的肖像  A Portrait of One in a Thousand

This extremely abstract work reflects the blurry, distorted and imaginative relationship between individuals who do not know each other well. The radically simplified photographs build a dreamy world with lines and blocks in color, while they also challenge the general understanding of portraits in photography.

I took portraits of people that I have met for only a few months or even a couple of days. As we did not know much about each other, I think a figurative and detailed portrait is not an authentic reflection of the relationship between us. Therefore, I drastically reduced the number of pixels of the portraits to reflect the little understanding between us. And then, I recovered the rest of the pixels to the original size of the photographs, symbolizing my futile attempt to tell the story of the person.

Ultimately, the representational portraits failed in realistic expression because of their own nature, and the minimalist portraits are the truly realistic portrayal of the individuals in this kind of relationship.

​Most people we have met and will meet in our lives are just casual acquaintances. From this perspective, are we not living in a dream?

这件极度抽象的作品反应了不相熟的个体之间模糊、失真以及想象的关系。彻底简化的影像构建出一个由彩色线条和色块组成的梦幻世界，同时也挑战了对于肖像摄影的普遍理解。

我为仅认识了几个月甚至是几天的人拍摄肖像。由于我们对彼此没有太多了解，我认为具象且充满细节的肖像并不是我们之间关系的真实映照。因此，我极大地缩减了肖像的像素来体现我对他们零星的认知。之后，我又将剩余的像素恢复至原始的大小，以此来象征我徒劳地想要诉说他们的故事的尝试。

最终，具象的肖像因其自身的性质而无法表达真实，而极简化的肖像才是真正对处于此类关系中的个人的真实写照。

 

我们一生中已经遇见的和将要遇见的大多数人，都是仅有泛泛之交的人。从这个角度来看，我们难道不是生活在梦里吗？​​​​
